As the fall semester quickly approaches, LCC has announced that they will be piloting a 15-week semester for most classes within the regular 16-week semester. This means LCC will technically have two “first” days of the semester. For some students taking classes within the Health and Human Services division, the standard 16-week long semester will kick off on August 20. For the majority of students however, the 15-week long semester, as well as Welcome Week activities, will begin on August 27. The college reports that this change comes about to combat burnout and reduce stress among students and staff. The college notes that this shortened semester may not be a permanent change, and the pilot this fall will help determine if the 15-week term is to stick around.

The college recommends that students double check their schedules and confirm which day their classes begin. To gear up for Welcome Week, LCC will host a New Student Kick-Off night on August 26. This event will offer incoming freshmen a chance to find their classrooms and enjoy refreshments and festivities. Students can also check the event calendar on LCC’s website to track Welcome Week activities.
