As the spring semester comes to an end all over the United States, LCC celebrates their 68th commencement ceremony at the Breslin Center on Michigan State University’s campus. The ceremony begins at 6 p.m. this afternoon.

Though commencement may be on the minds of many students, LCC’s graduation season celebrations began two days ago with the Dental Hygiene Program Pinning Ceremony. A pinning is a ceremony that celebrates the transition from student to professional and occurs most commonly in healthcare fields Twenty-two dental students graduated from the program this year, and roughly 350 people attended the pinning ceremony, held in Dart Auditorium.

The Fire Academy celebrated their graduation on May 6, and the Police Academy graduation is scheduled for May 8, at 6 p.m. in the Dart Auditorium. The Nurse pinning ceremonies will commence on May 12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Dart Auditorium.

At the commencement ceremony, Dr. DeRionne P. Pollard, Ph.D. will deliver the keynote address. Dr. Pollard works as the CEO and the first female president of the American Association of Community Colleges, as well as having previously served as president of Nevada State University.

“We are honored to welcome Dr. Pollard as our commencement speaker,” LCC President Dr. Steve Robinson said in a press release. “Her visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to expanding access to higher education make her an inspiring role model for our graduates.”

Meyers, who earned degrees from LCC and Western Michigan University, will receive the Distinguished Alumni Award.
