At the Board of Trustees Oct. 27, 2025, meeting, Trustee Chatum Taylor proposed a Trustee-Generated Idea to install visitor management kiosks. A Trustee-Generated Idea is an initiative proposed and created by a trustee aimed at improving student life around campus. The college began to explore ways to improve the visitor experience on campus without compromising security.

As of the May 2026 board meeting, the initiative has been completed. The initiative included six main projects:

  • LCC’s website now has a specific Visitor’s Information page that can be quickly accessed through the main drop-down menu at the top of every page.

Security footage from the new video intercoms is shown on a computer screen in a three-by-three grid.

Each new video intercom is managed by the LCC Police Department. Photo from the Board of Trustees meeting minutes.

  • Parking maps and instructions have been updated and now also include directions to places on campus where visitors without StarCards can enter buildings.

  • Each building call box has been upgraded to a video intercom, which is like a Ring camera, that goes directly to the LCC police department.

  • Video intercoms were installed in each of the Gannon Ramp lobbies where the elevators and stairs are located.

  • Instructional signage was added to all of those video intercoms.

  • The “StarCard Required for Entry” signs were updated so that the QR code directs to the applicable contact information on LCC’s website.

These different security measures not only create an easier way for visitors to access LCC’s campus and services but also enable Campus Safety officers to better screen non-students before they enter buildings. The new additions to campus aim to create a space that is both accessible to the community and safe for students and staff.
