On March 18, the annual Job, Internship, and Transfer Fair was held at LCC’s Downtown Campus. The fair was open to the public, and over 300 attendees checked in; however, it is thoughts that many, many more attended but did not sign in. “LCC is a part of the larger Lansing community and we feel it’s important to open the event up to the public,” Internship Development Manager Rebecca Sowa said in an email. “It is also a great way to showcase our campus to the community and promote many of the great employers in the area.”
Several years ago, the Job and Internship Fair combined with the Transfer Fair. “This allows students to maximize their time and explore multiple avenues for their future at one event,” Sowa said.
Although the scheduled open house celebrating the opening of the new Transfer Center was postponed, Transfer Center employees still welcomed attendees with cake and other refreshments and gift bags in its current location.
Employers were set up in the Gannon Commons and in the Grand River Room. Over 70 different employers spoke with the attendees about available roles within their organizations. Attending employers included national companies like Apple and Panda Restaurant Group, with a good mix of local companies as well, such as WILX-TV 10 and MSU Federal Credit Union.
Colleges and universities set up shop near the Transfer Center in the Gannon Highway. Over 20 representatives from universities and colleges from all over Michigan answered questions and spoke with attendees. The event featured a range of institutions arriving from as far as the Upper Peninsula with Michigan Tech University and Northern Michigan University, as well as those closer to Lansing. like Michigan State University and Eastern Michigan University.
To help attendees navigate the event, there were signs with maps throughout the building, and staff members were available to answer questions and offer directions. By having the Job, Internship and Transfer Fair at the same time, LCC provided attendees a chance to explore many paths for their future in one place.
